Logical Torches

This mod makes torches in vanilla Minecraft logical, namely, it adds the ability to light a stick with any type of torch, stove, smoker, blast furnace, fire block, or bonfire (as well as a redstone block). If you don't have any of these blocks nearby, you can use a flint and steel or a fire charge, place them in your other hand, and right-click to light the torch. However, lava does not allow you to light a torch on itself and will turn your stick into a burnt piece of wood that can be used as fuel if you turn it into charcoal.
